Lucknow, UP, November 30, 2023: As per media reports, the police on Tuesday arrested two doctors, including the director of a private nursing home, for their role in the alleged sale of a newborn baby to a corporate in Siddharth Nagar district.
According to the news published in The Indian Express, the baby was located at the house of corporator Mohammad Nishar and the police are now on his lookout.
According to police, on November 26, Pushpa Devi, 28, a local resident, approached them and said that she had undergone a C-section on October 29. The surgery was conducted by Dr Rehman and Dr Akram was present, she told the police. After the operation, the doctors allegedly told her that she had given birth to a stillborn baby.
After seven days, Devi was discharged from the hospital. Despite several requests, she told the police, the stillborn baby was not shown to the family.
A few days ago, Devi heard through sources that she had given birth to a healthy child and that the baby was sold by the doctors.
After Devi got an FIR lodged at the Pachperwa police station in Balrampur, the police began an investigation and questioned the doctors, who allegedly failed to give specific replies and subsequently confessed to the crime.
Awadesh Kumar Singh, the station house officer of Pachperwa police station, identified the arrested doctors as Akram, 40, the director of a private hospital, and Dr Hafizur Rehman, 50, who runs a hospital in Siddharth Nagar.
The baby has been handed over to the teal mother. Balrampur Circle Officer Raghvendra Singh said they have sent a report to the district hospital which is collecting details of the nursing home.
Acting on information provided by the doctors, the police conducted a raid at corporator Nishar’s house in Siddharth Nagar and found the baby. “the doctors confessed to having sold the baby but did not disclose the amount,” said a police officer.
