Temple Purified With ‘Gangajal’ in UP After Muslim MLA’s Visit
Siddharthnagar, Uttar Pradesh, November 27, 2023: As per media reports a temple underwent a purification ritual involving ‘gangajal’ after the visit of Sayeda Khatoon, a Muslim MLA from the Samajwadi Party.
According to the news agency IANS, Khatoon had attended a ‘Shatchandi Mahayagya’ at the invitation of local residents at the Samay Mata temple on Sunday. Following her departure, individuals opposed to her visit performed a purification ceremony with ‘gangajal’ while reciting mantras.
The Samay Mata temple holds significance as a revered religious site for Hindus in Siddharth Nagar district, situated on the banks of the Rapti River. Devotees from neighboring countries and nearby districts also visit the temple.
Dharamraj Verma, the head of Badhani Chafa’s Nagar Panchayat where the temple is situated, led the purification process.
He claimed that Khatoon’s visit had rendered the holy place impure due to her being a Muslim and consuming cow meat.
Verma asserted that after the purification, the temple was now entirely sanctified and suitable for worship, emphasizing that such actions should not be tolerated.
Sayeda Khatoon, speaking from Lucknow, stated that as a representative of the people, she would continue visiting places associated with all religions and sects, undeterred by such incidents. Khatoon mentioned that she had been invited by Brahmins and saints of the area to the ‘Samay Mata temple’ and affirmed her respect for all religions.
She clarified that she serves as a legislator for all people in the region and would accept invitations wherever extended, noting her involvement in the renovation of several temples in the area.
Khatoon also pointed out that Dharamraj Verma, an elected member, is affiliated with the BJP and Hindu Yuva Vahini, a right-wing group initiated by UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The temple’s priest, Sri Krishna Dutt Shukla, explained that Khatoon had been invited for the ‘mahayagya’ and had visited in the evening.
Shukla shared that Khatoon spoke about harmony in society before departing. The following morning, Verma and his team questioned Shukla about the MLA’s visit, asserting that the temple had become impure due to her presence. They proceeded to sprinkle ‘gangajal’ and conduct a cleaning exercise.
