Ferozepur, July 11, 2023: Due to Incessant heavy rain in Himachal’s mountain areas, the water level in Sutlej is rising up and the district administration has started operations from the last two days with great effort to evacuate people from the affected areas, strengthen the embankments, and bring people to safe places. Relief camps were organized for the needy people where they are being provided food, medicines, fodder, tarpaulins etc.
Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Dhiman accomplanied by SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, visited various villages including the villages adjacent to Hussainiwala, Kaluwala, Ghazniwala, Dona Mattar, Joginder Chowki in the district.
DC said that till 1 pm 2,11,804 cusecs water has been released from Harike Ke headworks while 1,12,440 cusecs water has been released from Hussainiwala headworks. He said that water is being continuously released from Harike and Hussainiwala head works so that the areas adjacent to the river could avoid damage by water.
DC said that the district administration is constantly monitoring the river water. He appealed to the people of the river-affected areas to reach safe places along with their families and animals as the district administration has set up relief camps for their convenience where all necessary facilities are being provided.
He said, in the flood-affected areas of the district, Hussainiwala, Mamdot, Guruharshai, Zira where the water of river Sutlej has damaged the crops or the people who are surrounded by water, efforts are being made on war level to evacuate them. In this task, apart from other departments, NDRF, BSF, the help of the Indian Army is also being sought.
