Amritsar, July 23, 2023: The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has released its official YouTube/web channel today to broadcast Gurbani Kirtan (singing of holy Sikh verses) from Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib to Sangat across the world.

In this regard, after the bhog (concluding ceremony) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Gurbaksh Singh Ji in Sri Darbar Sahib complex, a Gurmat Samagam (religious congregation) was held at Gurdwara Sri Manji Sahib Diwan Hall, where the web channel was officially launched. The channel started by the SGPC for the Gurbani broadcast has been named as ‘SGPC Sri Amritsar’, which will be available on YouTube and Facebook.

On the occasion of the inauguration ceremony of the channel, SGPC President Harjinder Singh Dhami said that today is a historic day when the SGPC is starting the Gurbani broadcast on its own. He said that with this the long-standing demand of the Sangat has been fulfilled.

The SGPC President clarified during his address that all the rights to broadcast Gurbani from Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib will remain with the SGPC and no other channel will be able to broadcast it. He said that the SGPC will soon set up its own satellite channel, the process of which is being done actively.

“At present PTC channel has been authorized to broadcast Gurbani on satellite as per Sangat’s demand. The SGPC had appealed to the management of PTC in this regard, which has agreed. Along with this, the monthly expenses of Rs 12 lakh to be paid to a company selected by the SGPC for broadcasting Gurbani on its official YouTube and social media platforms will also be borne by the PTC”, said Harjinder Singh Dhami.

He appealed that the Sangat should join/subscribe/follow the ‘SGPC Sri Amritsar’ YouTube and Facebook channel started by the SGPC to connect to uninterrupted Gurbani Kirtan broadcast from Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib.

About changing the name of the web channel, the SGPC President said that this has been done after the suggestions of scholars and discussions with the high priests, because in the future if any legal complications arise related to the channel, the name of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib will remain out of it.

Additional head granthi of Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib Giani Amarjit Singh congratulated the Sangat for the channel started for broadcasting Gurbani.

Those present on this occasion included former head granthi Giani Jagtar Singh, former Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, SGPC junior vice-president Avtar Singh Raya, general secretary Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal, executive committee members Surjit Singh Tughalwal, Bawa Singh Gumanpura, Bibi Gurinder Kaur Bholuwala, members Bhai Rajinder Singh Mehta, Bhai Manjit Singh, Bhai Amarjit Singh Chawla, Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka, Harjap Singh Sultanwind, Amarjit Singh Bandala, Sarwan Singh Kular, Ravinder Singh Khalsa, Ranjit Singh Kahlon, Kulwant Singh Mannan, Teja Singh Kamalpur, Jarnail Singh Dogranwala, Balwinder Singh Vain Puin, Harpal Singh Jallah, Jathedar Gurlal Singh, Bibi Joginder Kaur Dharamkot, SGPC secretary Partap Singh, OSD Satbir Singh Dhami, and key SGPC officials and representatives of Sikh organizations were present.
