A medical store owner had alleged Jhota of threatening him for ransom
Mansa, September 11, 2023: As per media reports, anti drug activist Parminder Singh Jhota was released from Muktsar Jail this evening. After following a court order after the police and complainant took back the complaint.

According to the news published in The Tribune, Advocate Lakhwinder Lakhanpal said after the release of Jhota following government orders under heavy pressure, the Mansa police have removed all legal obstacles today.
The order came after the police told the court that they don’t want to pursue the case against Jhota, as the complainant has decided not to proceed with his complaint.
Jhota’s release will also end the indefinite dharna going on in Mansa for his release. It is the second time in four months that Jhota has been released under pressure from civil society. -The Indian Express reported.
A medical store owner had alleged Jhota of threatening him for ransom. Jhota was released from Muktsar jail after the court order reached there on Monday evening.
An FIR was filed against Ashwani Kumar based on Jhota’s complaint, and he was released on bail the same night.
However, the police took notice of the entire incident and filed FIRs against Parminder Singh Jhota and five others under Sections 355, 451, 323, 148, and 149 of IPC. Subsequently, Jhota was arrested from his residence, and the video of his arrest.
The activist received a warm welcome on his release.
Since the arrest of Jhota, the NGOs along with anti drug committees have been staging protest seeking his release from the jail.
A few days back, when protesters had gone to gherao the residences of MLAs over the arrest, MLAs Budh Ram and Gurpreet Banawali had sought four days to resolve the issue. They had said that Jhota would be out of jail by Tuesday.
